Uber began spreading to African markets with low vehicle ownership and limited public transport and was launched in Abidjan, the commercial capital of the Ivory Coast.
Although Uber operates in 16 cities in sub-Saharan Africa, especially South Africa and East Africa, its presence in West Africa has been limited so far, except for Nigeria and Ghana.
