US ambassador recalled from Zambia after expressing his views on the current situation, the sentencing of two gay men and causing an uproar in the country, with the President saying the ambassador is trying to dictate policy and has declared the ambassador, Mr. Daniel Foote as persona non grata.
The recall of the US ambassador may, in turn, result in the US cutting aid to one of its largest receiver after being told by the ambassador that large amounts of the funds being given to the country were being misused and that no strict punishment for such actions was in place
The US ambassador has since returned to Washington and a replacement is not to be named any time soon, sources say.
