Algeria’s Military Chief Dies

Algeria’s military chief Ahmed Gaid Salah dies aged 79 due to a heart attack on Monday. He was the de facto leader after the former president was overthrown from office after mass protests last year and played an integral part in the re-election process, pushing through stiff opposition to see the newly elected president take office last week. He is being replaced by Head of Land Forces, General Said Chengriha.
