Benin Is Investigating the Latest Case of Piracy in The Gulf of Guinea

With the abduction of 9 crew members of the Norwegian ship MV Bonita on Saturday, the authorities in Benin launched to rescue efforts these sailors.

Norwegian transport company J.J Ugland anchored on the coast of Benin its gypsum-bearing vessel, a mineral used as fertilizer. Meanwhile, the ship was hijacked by pirates.

The Ugland Emergency Response Team is checking the situation under emergency plans and keeping the relevant authorities informed. The families of the crew members were contacted.

The Gulf of Guinea is still considered a risky area for kidnapping and armed robbery.
