Uber Technologies Inc. has launched a pilot test of a boat service in Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria, to attract passengers wishing to avoid blocking the troubled roads of the mega-city. The United Nations estimates that Nigeria’s population will double from 400 million by 2050. Thus, Nigeria will become the world’s third most populous country after China and India.
Waterway service UberBOAT said it was run in partnership with local boat operator Texas Connection Ferries and Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).
“This initiative aims to offer the suburbs an easy and affordable way to enter and exit the city’s business districts,” Uber said.
